DR.SKETCHY'S WENT ARTY

I used to go and draw to all Dr.Sketchy events - you know, the so called "anti art school", drawing evenings usually with creative settings and in one way or another cabaret inspired models. Plus red wine and good music -  but during the past two years I have let my pencils rest. Haven't had the time really. In fact, Sketchy's in Helsinki was on hiatus for some time due to a lack of time from the organizers too, as it was run by the same team behind Helsinki Burlesque.

Last year however my fellow Itty-Bitty Tinker Bell and former Bitty Jackie O'Lantern took over as hostesses and organizers of the Helsinki events!

I missed out on the first evenings but modeled for the last one a couple of weeks ago. It was a very visual evening so I though I'd share some photos.

The theme was simply "art" and we posed as the primary colours. I'm so blue!

Before I take you (those of you who are up here) away from the cold and back to the sun I'll stick in a little hint about what to do this Friday if you're in the mood for going all artsy: Dr.Sketchy's anti art school goes ART! ALOHA

Some nights ago I put a lot of flowers in my hair took a quick trip to the pacific, splashing waves and swinging palm trees.


I didn't have to go that far though- me and most of the other Itty Bitties went to a Hawaian themed Dr.Sketchys with flowers and floral shirts, a hula dancer and the right tunes!



I did some drawings. They pretty much all ended up looking the same.

Interested in Dr.Sketchy evenings but there's none near you? Then you can just start your own! ... but you do need to contact the founder Molly Crapabble first, via Dr.Sketchy's.

Next week I might post a short tutorial about how I did this hair...


..but first I'll go catch some sun and snow in Lapland for a few days!

Yesterday I went to a Dr.Sketchy's evening with my friends K and P. Dr. Sketchy's is described as "anti art school". It's a concept/movement that started in the USA a couple of years ago but can now be found in citites all over the world, described as when art school meets cabaret.

I've been to a couple (they're organized about 4-5 times a year over here) and last night was a warm up for this weekend's Burlesque Festival, with one of the performers modelling. We had some red wine and cigarettes (ehrm, I guess that's nothing new for me) and did some sketches and watched old burlesque clips. The DJ played ironwire guitar music (yes yes yes!) and other oldies. I like it a lot!
